Actor, writer, and now "controversial" voice over artist reports that his mock Tea Party/FreedomWorks public service announcement has gone viral. "I knew it had gone viral when friends told me they had already been emailed the YouTube link from other friends." A search for "D.C. Douglas PSA For Tea Party And FreedomWorks Critics" turns up over 30 pages on Google.
Part of the viral success can be attributed to The Huffington Post putting it on their front page within a half hour of the press release going out. Within 8 hours, Mr. Douglas had been booked on The Joy Behar Show on CNN's HLN and the Alan Colmes FOX radio show. Within 48 hours, it had crossed the 200,000 views threshold on YouTube and continues to propagate, now showing up on other video sites such as Funny Or Die and Daily Motion.
The PSA is Mr. Douglas' response to FreedomWorks' unethical tactics in silencing dissenters, the Tea Party's seeming contradictions, and the media's rough treatment of the facts surrounding Mr. Douglas being released from a Geico commercial campaign. A timeline of these events were chronicled on Mr. Douglas' blog.
"I am tickled pink." muses Mr. Douglas. "This is me turning tea bags into lemonade... or Arnold Palmers... A LOT of Arnold Palmers..."
D.C. Douglas' PSA, unofficially referred to as "Don't Drunk Dial FreedomWorks" by many bloggers, can be seen on YouTube and elsewhere on the internet. His interview with Joy Behar and Geraldo Rivera can be seen on his blog.
