Celebrate DNA Day with Free NCBI Map Viewer Tutorial

Seattle WA (PRWEB) April 25, 2008 -- OpenHelix today announced it is offering its NCBI Map Viewer tutorial for the next month for free, in celebration of DNA day.

The NCBI Map Viewer is a genome browser which organizes and displays dozens of species genomes, with additional context and annotations. Its extensive integration with other NCBI tools enables researchers to link quickly to relevant additional details.

The free tutorial from OpenHelix, created and updated by Ph.D.s, provides a thorough introduction to the tool. You'll learn to:

  • perform text and sequence searches for discovery of information
  • employ the Maps and Options features to customize your views
  • access extensive links to other NCBI resources that may be helpful to your research

The narrated tutorial is divided into chapters for easing navigation and use for reference. The tutorial is normally available through one time purchase of $89, or through a subscription to it and over 40 other tutorials on other bioinformatics and genomics resources.

You can also find six other free tutorials, which are sponsored by the resource providers. The sponsored tutorials include GeneSNPs, Genome Variation Server, Integrated Microbial Genomes, SeattleSNPs, UCSC Genome Browser, and VISTA Comparative Genomics Tools.

DNA Day was created to commemorate the completion of the Human Genome Project in April 2003, and the discovery of DNA's double helix. Annually there are special events, teaching and learning opportunities.
