Wright Line Wins DOE 2009 Energy Saver Award
Manufacturing Leader Strengthens Green Commitment with Participation in ISO-NE Demand Response Program
Worcester, MA, (PRWEB) November 5, 2009 -- Wright Line, a leading manufacturer of workplace products and furnishings for technology-intensive environments, today announced that it had won a 2009 Save Energy Now Energy Saver Award issued by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Technologies Program. It further announced that it was enhancing its green commitment with its membership in the ISO-New England Demand Response Program.

Wright Line is one of only 93 Energy Saver Award winners in 2009. The Energy Saver award is for those facilities that have saved a total of 75,000 million Btu or reduced their total energy use by 7.5% or more. In total, all of the 2009 Save Energy Now Award Winners have saved $47 million in costs and 6.4 TBtu in energy.

ISO-NE-Demand Response Program
The Independent System Operation (ISO) New England Demand Response Program (DRP) is a voluntary initiative in which participants, in response to alerts, are asked to temporarily reduce their electric consumption in return for financial incentives.
Alerts typically occur during high peak periods and/or system emergencies and usually last a few hours. The reduction in electric consumption is generally achieved by operating generators, other energy management practices or through building load curtailment.
Choosing to participate in a real-time, turn-key reliability DRP managed by Curtailment Service Provider (CSP),Comverge , Inc., required that Wright Line also take part in a Comverge energy assessment. The assessment determined which systems the company could reduce during high demand periods. Comverge also provided Wright Line with access to software tools that monitor its energy consumption levels.
As a result of the energy assessment, it was agreed that, when alerted, Wright Line would have two hours to reduce its energy consumption by 300 KW by shutting down its powder coating and wood shop systems, as well as all building air conditioning.
