Author and US Navy retiree Darryl Lezama’s new book, “From The Civil Rights Pioneers to The First African American President and Beyond: Forging a More Perfect Union by Eliminating Injustice, Racism, Poverty and Violence” (published by AuthorHouse), captures the spirit of great civil rights leaders, offering Lezama’s outlook on current race relations, its challenges and possible solutions.
Part history and part memoir, Lezama’s book celebrates the achievements of civil rights leaders and their many contributions to equality. Lezama discusses great men and women such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall and many others who fought for freedom and brotherhood in the United States.
Lezama also includes memories from his own life as a black man in the United States, illustrating his firsthand accounts of racism and its changes over the years. Though Lezama believes the road to true equality is still long, he is optimistic that future generations of Americans will live in a community where everyone is valued by the contents of their hearts.
Lezama writes, “The book gives a new bold prospective regarding American’s courageous efforts to lead the world as the beacon of hope and a shining example that people of different cultures, races, heritage, backgrounds and beliefs can live together, struggle together, work together and progress together with a spirit of mutual respect, understanding, and a great vision for our collective future.”
