Canada’s leading speed dating company, 25dates.com, continues their revealing look at dating patterns for Canadian Singles through their ongoing Dating Canada Census Series. This time, they pull back the covers to reveal how singles meet singles, by month and season.
Across eight years of operation, sales in January surpassed other months of the year, accounting for close to 12% of 25dates.com’s yearly revenue; 50% higher than the average month. Stamm’ler cites New Year’s resolutions among other possible reasons for the marked increase, “People are intent to find a mate for the coming year. Spending the holidays alone can be a huge incentive to date more in January, and a new year brings new opportunities. We find it telling that while we tend to reduce spending after the holidays, people won’t cut back when looking for love.”
Being in business for almost eight years and having over 20,000 Canadian singles take part in their popular 25dates.com Speed Dating events, president Ragna Stamm’ler says, “We realized we had all this data just waiting to be mined for fascinating patterns. Having such a prolonged inside look into not only the patterns of dating, but also the social and economic trends present, it was only natural for us to notice recurring themes. We now have statistics to support our observations.”

February brings a small decrease in sales compared to January. Says Stamm’ler, “It may show a slight decrease but the lead up to Valentine’s day is big. In early February, it’s a time of great expectations for singles. It seems that everyone that was interested but hesitant to come out, finds the courage and makes that leap of faith to come out to find love.”
From June to October, sales steadily start increasing again each month, with the most rapid increase happening between September and November. “After Labour Day, people tend to get into gear, so to speak,” says Stamm’ler. “It’s back to work, back to school, and for singles, an increase in their dating pursuits. Perhaps at this time of year the increase need is motivated by the desire to snuggle up with someone special during the cold winter months.”
December shows a slight decrease in participation, which Stamm’ler attributes to the pressure of the holidays. “People are busy getting ready for Christmas. We have some speed dating events at the very beginning of December and then usually a Christmas and a New Years party, but we don’t hold as many events as we do in other months.”
A typical 25dates.com speed dating event has participants meeting at a restaurant, for 25 three-minute-dates. At the end of each date, participants discreetly check “yes” or “no” next to the ID number of the person they’ve just met on their “matchcard”. At the end of the night, the cards are collected, and 25dates.com tallies up who says “yes” to each other – that’s called a match. Says Stamm’ler, “We find after all this time, it’s still the most effective way of meeting people, because the process combines the ease of the internet (where daters sign up), with that all-important face-to-face connection.” 25dates.com caters to different age groups, ranging from age 19 to 55.
The Canadian-owned 25dates.com shows no signs of slowing down, with an average of 3 events per week. “The amount of success stories, including marriages, babies and long-term relationships just keeps on growing. People want to find love and companionship, especially in big cities, and this does seem to be the most cost-effective and efficient way to do it.” Stamm’ler is one of those success stories herself, having met husband at a 25dates.com event; the couple just celebrated the first birthday of son.
