New York, New York (PRWEB) November 07, 2012
The number of DePuy Pinnacle hip lawsuits pending in the federal multidistrict litigation currently underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas, now exceed 2,900, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
According to the most recent Master Case List filed with the Court on November 2, 2012, approximately 2,990 DePuy Pinnacle lawsuits have been filed in the litigation. A previous Master Case List released by the Court on September 1, 2012 recorded 2,564 DePuy Pinnacle hip replacement lawsuit filings. “In light of the growing concerns surrounding the safety of metal-on-metal hip implants in general, it’s not at all surprising that individuals allegedly injured by the all-metal DePuy Pinnacle continue to file cases in the federal litigation,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing clients allegedly injured as a result of the metal-on-metal Pinnacle hip systems. Firm partner Jeffrey S. Grand serves on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the federal DePuy Pinnacle litigation.
DePuy Pinnacle Hip Lawsuits
The federal DePuy Pinnacle litigation pending in Texas involves a metal-on-metal version of the DePuy Pinnacle Hip Replacement System that utilizes the metal Ultamet liner. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is currently reviewing the safety of metal-on-metal hip implants, amid concerns that metal particles shed by such devices can cause an adverse local tissue reaction in the area surrounding the implant. As a result, the device can become loose or cause pain, leading to revision surgery. There are also some case reports in the literature of patients in which high levels of metal ions in the bloodstream may have caused other types of symptoms or illnesses elsewhere in the body, including effects on the heart, nervous system, and thyroid gland, according to the FDA.*
Individuals who experienced metal-on-metal hip problems may file lawsuits against the devices’ manufacturers to seek compensation for their injuries. In addition to the DePuy Pinnacle metal-on-metal hip implant, the lawyers at Bernstein Liebhard LLP are actively filing lawsuits on behalf of people allegedly injured by the DePuy ASR hip implant. The firm is also investigating cases concerning the Biomet M2a Magnum hip implant, as well as Wright Profemur and Conserve metal hip implants. In addition, Bernstein Liebhard LLP is closely following developments of the June 2012 Smith & Nephew metal liner recall and the July 2012 Stryker recall of its Rejuvenate and ABG II modular-neck hip stems.
