San Francisco, CA (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 16, 2009 -- DeepRoot, a leading provider of sustainable products for urban landscape management, announced today that its Silva Cell has been selected as one of BuildingGreen's 2009 Top 10 Green Building Products. This annual award recognized the most innovative products added to the GreenSpec® Directory during the past year or covered in Environmental Building News.
The Silva Cell is an innovative subsurface integrated tree and stormwater system that holds unlimited amounts of soil while supporting traffic loads beneath paving and hardscapes. The healthy soil housed within the Silva Cell serves two important functions: growing large trees and treating stormwater onsite.
"DeepRoot is dedicated to sustainability and environmental preservation. We are honoed to be recognized by BuildingGreen for these efforts," said Graham Ray, Executive Vice President,DeepRoot. We are proud of the contribution we make for our customers who are committed to urban development and streetscapes around the world."
In 2007, DeepRoot introduced the Silva Cell system to solve the need for additional soil and infrastructure for trees in urban areas requiring heavily compacted soil to support pavement and vehicles. Using an innovative frame and deck system, the Silva Cell meets H-20 loading standards while accommodating surrounding utilities.
Silva Cells meet all quality standards and can be used to help earn points on the LEED rating system, an important certification for sustainable development.
BuildingGreen's Annual Top 10 Award has become a prestigious industry recognition since launching eight years ago. Award recipients were formally recognized on November 12 during the GreenBuild Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The awards generate a tremendous amount of interest on the part of Environmental Building News editors and their readerships in the building industry.
