National Faith Leaders Pray Over Denver

Prayer One Ministries will host a helicopter "prayer" tour of the city for 15 special guests and faith leaders from other states in an effort to protect and unite the community during the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Denver (Vocus/PRWEB ) August 26, 2008 -- Prayer One Ministries will host a helicopter "prayer" tour of the city for 15 special guests and faith leaders from other states in an effort to protect and unite the community during the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC).

They will be joined by formerly homeless, single mother Kim Banks and mentoring team members from the Family and Senior Homeless Initiative (FSHI). FSHI, Denver's Road Home faith-based initiative, calls upon all congregations of faith to take responsibility to help end homelessness. With leadership from Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Denver's Road Home hopes to recruit 1,000 congregations by 2015.

In less than three years, over 200 congregations from the faith community have helped 426 families into permanent housing in partnership with FSHI. This program has become a national model for other cities carrying out ten-year plans to end homelessness. Incredible progress is being made towards the Mayor's goal, but there is much more work to be done (www.fshi.org).

Prayer One Ministries' purpose is to provide a unique and inspirational experience while bringing together various church denominations. The goal for faith leaders is to expand their perspective and provide encouragement to each other as they bless the city and DNC.

"Denver has worked diligently to bring together people of all faiths through the Family and Senior Homeless Initiative, to address and find solutions to homelessness," said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. "Today as local and national faith leaders fly over our great city and pray for the Democratic National Convention, let us be mindful of the importance of this spirit of unity needed to build our communities across the nation."
