Dr. Robert G. Schwartz, the principal of Piedmont Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, P.A., announced today that he is now certified in “Systema”: a Russian martial art system that is also a philosophy of life that focuses on reducing tension in all aspects of life.

Systema, which dates back to the 10th century, is a Russian Martial Art that has four key principles -- breathing, posture, constant motion and relaxation. Each of these principles helps support a system of life that is optimized to reduce tension, and thus can help contribute to the treatment of a variety of health conditions ranging from everyday complaints, to serious diseases. Dr. Schwartz has found the tools and tactics employed by Systema so powerful, that he has integrated them into his medical practice at Piedmont Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, P.A., which is located in Greenville, SC.

“Through breathing, movement, and tension reduction, people can also reduce fear and start to focus on enjoying life today,” commented Dr. Schwartz, who was certified by Vladimir Vasiliev, one of the Systema’s founding Directors and Chief Instructors, at its Toronto world headquarters. “Systema helps people to experience the true meaning of freedom. Benefits related to reducing tension include improved endurance, balance, flexibility and self-esteem – all of which can make a significant contribution to any individual’s treatment and healing plan, whether they are recovering from illness or want to maintain their optimal sense of health and wellbeing.”

Over the last few years Dr. Schwartz has developed specific programs that integrate Systems principles and techniques into his healthcare practice. Updates will be provided on his website at http://piedmontpmr.com. There are already several articles and blog posts on Systema Health.

Dr. Schwartz is also the Systema Instructor at Systema Greenville. Systema classes are held every Sunday at 1:30pm at Cleveland Park in Greenville, SC. More information on Systema Greenville is available at http://www.systemagreenville.com.
