Commenting on the recent article, the Beverly Hills plastic surgeon notes that many older patients are seeking a plastic surgery procedure to remain active in their career and personal lives.

Eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) are one of the more popular procedures with older patients.

Dr. J....notes that, while he has his share of patients in their twenties and thirties, he is also seeing an increasing number of people in their later years, and that they come to him for all sorts of reasons.

A January 20 article in The Telegraph describes how studies conducted both in the United States and the United Kingdom are showing a trend towards more older patients expressing an intense interest in plastic surgeries and obtaining them. The article also notes the increase may be related to the reality that plastic surgery is now more socially accepted than ever before. Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon Payam Jarrah-Nejad, M.D., F.I.C.S., F.A.C.S., known to his patients and colleagues as Dr. J, praises the trend and notes that, while he has his share of patients in their twenties and thirties, he is also seeing an increasing number of people in their later years, and that they come to him for all sorts of reasons.

These include:

-- Staying Active in the Work Force. Nobody thinks it’s fair, Dr. J notes, but the reality is that employers and others may be inclined to favor workers who appear younger. The plastic surgeon notes that this phenomenon might be most pronounced in the appearance conscious entertainment industry, but it is true in just about all areas of endeavor. Older individuals he treats who wish to remain vital in their careers come from fields ranging from law and high tech, to medicine and education. Dr. J also notes that, as The Telegraph reports, many of these patients are seeking procedures that concentrate on subtle improvements in the facial area, such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts) that can deal with baggy eyelids that may look tired and generally not so attractive.

-- Staying Active Socially. Contrary to the assumption of many teens and twenty-somethings, people 55 and over have love lives, too, notes Dr. J. Particularly for men and women who may find themselves unexpectedly back in the dating pool after the end of a long relationship, a few nips and tucks may be just the thing to help give them the confidence they need to meet new people and take some risks, and Dr. J adds that he has performed all kind of operations on people in this age group. He notes that his patients include a growing number of men seeking procedures ranging from rhinoplasty (nose jobs) to male breast reduction. The latter plastic surgery procedure is typically associated with gynecomastia, a common medical issue resulting in oversized male breasts. Dr. J notes that gynecomastia patients are consistently pleased with their results.
