The Evidence In Motion (EIM) Institute for Health Professions is excited to announce a new partnership with the Sports Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (SPTS). This partnership is in relation to EIM’s Emergency Response Course and means that the SPTS will support and promote this EIM offering.

The SPTS is a component member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), which provides a common forum for members of the Association with an interest in sports physical therapy. The SPTS strives to promote the identity of the sports physical therapist and to serve its members, athletes of all ages and abilities, the profession, and the community at large through excellence in Sports PT practice, research, education and professional development.

“The Sports Section is pleased to welcome Evidence In Motion as our partner,” says Timothy Tyler, PT, MS, ATC, President of SPTS. “One of our primary goals as an organization is to identify and support educational opportunities, and assist our members in their professional development and continuing education. The partnership with EIM helps facilitate this goal.”

EIM’s Emergency Response Course integrates the objectives set forth by the American Red Cross and the Department of Transportation for Emergency Response. It is designed specifically for the physical therapist seeking to provide athletic venue coverage and respond appropriately to acute injury. The Emergency Response Course fulfills the requirements for a physical therapist to be eligible for Sports Physical Therapy Residency Programs and submission of application for the ABPTS- SCS examination.

The course includes instruction and discussion of assessment, management and prevention of cardio-respiratory emergencies, musculoskeletal injury, environmental injuries and medical emergencies such as shock or diabetic reactions, brain injury and spinal injury.    An intensive laboratory weekend is combined with online coursework. Following successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a First Responder Certification (good for 3 years) and a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification (good for 2 years).

“The support that the Sports Section is providing is highly valued”, states Teresa Schuemann, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, Director of EIM’s Sports Residency Program and Emergency Response Course Lead Faculty. “The EIM Emergency Response Course provides a wealth of knowledge while fulfilling requirements to sit for the SCS exam or entrance into a credentialed sport physical therapy residency program. This partnership provides an advantage for Sports Sections members with a different learning platform for this course and a heightened awareness of other valuable EIM course opportunities. At the same time, EIM can now reach more therapists with their course offerings. It’s a win-win situation.”
