This analysis is a ‘trending comparison on steroids’ that empowers organizations to make better decisions and see the impact of their efforts on employee engagement more clearly.

Utah-based leadership consulting firm DecisionWise, Inc. announces the release of a new analysis that details the way employee engagement shifts from year to year in various organizations. The DecisionWise Employee Engagement Migration Analysis details for an organization how many of their fully-engaged employees from the previous year remained fully engaged, became less engaged, or left the organization.
DecisionWise Director of Consulting Services, Dr. Paul Warner indicates that the analysis goes beyond simple aggregate data trending in that it follows levels of engagement by individual level, versus looking at the group in aggregate. “Through analyzing and reporting on an individual’s survey responses across multiple years, we are able to understand which factors cause that single individual to shift from disengagement to engagement, or vice versa, over a given time period,” Warner stated. He adds, “Even though we are looking at individual responses, we are still able to maintain confidentiality by reporting information in aggregate.”
In order to show these migration patterns, employees are grouped by engagement level based on employee survey results: Fully Engaged, Key Contributor, Opportunity Group, and Disengaged. Results are then compared year-over-year to chart the movement of employees from one group to another. The analysis also breaks out, by level of employee engagement, the number of employees that left the organization.
Warner elaborates, “For example, if there were 100 employees in the Key Contributor group in 2011, the report may show that in 2012, 25 moved to the Fully Engaged group, 40 stayed in the Key Contributor group, and the rest were distributed into the other groups or left the company. Using a Sankey diagram, we can report on commonalities and dissimilarities to very specifically analyze how companies can increase levels of engagement in the organization.”
Dr. Warner and his team developed the analysis in response to client requests about data trending. He remarked: “Companies want to know where their employees are now compared to their survey responses from the previous year. This analysis is a ‘trending comparison on steroids’ that empowers organizations to make better decisions and see the impact of their efforts on employee engagement more clearly.”
