Cardiatis Multilayer Aneurysm Repair System, MARS, Receives CE Mark Approval for Treating Peripheral Aneurysms

Cardiatis SA, today announced that its Multilayer Aneurysm Repair System (MARS) has received CE Mark approval for treating patients with peripheral aneurysms. Product rollout is underway.

Brussels, Belgium (PRWEB) June 9, 2009 -- Cardiatis, SA announced today that it has received CE Mark approval for the commercial sale of its Multilayer Aneurysm Repair System.

The Multilayer Aneurysm Repair System (MARS) is based on non-invasive paradigm shifting technology that treats aneurysms, regardless of their location, endovasculary through hemodynamic flow modulation and parent artery repair techniques. The received CE Mark is for the peripheral indication and clinical development is underway for cerebral and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm indications.

Due to novelty of the technology, Cardiatis has initiated limited rollout of the product to select interventional centers where physician training is underway.

"We are very pleased to provide physicians and patients with Cardiatis breakthrough Multilayer Aneurysm Repair System", said Noureddine Frid, Cardiatis president and chief executive officer. "Physicians will now have access to a new minimally-invasive technology that will allow them to treat peripheral aneurysms endovasculary while preserving precious collateral circulation."

The Multilayer Aneurysm Repair System (MARS) has proven to be highly deliverable and is effective in excluding aneurysms from circulation while preserving collaterals. It also offers an excellent safety profile, which is important to both physicians and patients.

More than 95% of peripheral artery aneurysms occur in males, and the average age of patients at presentation is 65 years. Atherosclerosis appears to be the etiology in more than 90% of cases. Popliteal artery aneurysms are the most common peripheral artery aneurysms accounting for up to 85% of total aneurysms in the periphery.
