Southern Colorado Eye Care has dramatically reduced its energy usage as a result of energy-efficient lighting upgrades at two of its clinics in Pueblo and Canon City, CO. The lighting upgrades, completed by SmartWatt Energy through the Black Hills Energy Small & Medium Business Direct Install Program, have reduced Southern Colorado Eye Care Associates’ energy consumption by 30,060 kWh.

SmartWatt conducted an energy evaluation of all lighting systems in two of Southern Colorado Eye Care Associates’ clinics and then engineered a solution to replace the existing lighting systems with high-efficiency fluorescents and LEDs throughout interior and exterior areas. In addition to a dramatic improvement in lighting quality and quantity, the new lighting systems have resulted in $328 in monthly energy savings and a Black Hills Energy incentive of $5,412.

The Black Hills Energy Small & Medium Business Direct Install Program provides an incentive of up to 60 percent to help businesses with an average demand use of 350 kW or less per month conduct energy-efficiency upgrades. SmartWatt, the contractor administering the program, provides a free energy evaluation, recommended energy-efficiency upgrades and interest-free financing for the businesses’ remaining portion of the costs.
