New RosettaNet Engineering Information Management Standard Allows Automated Communication of Design Specifications

Use of Standard Can Help Increase New Product Speed-To-Market By Simplifying Business Processes, Eliminating Manual Systems and Reducing Errors

Lawrenceville, NJ (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 29, 2008 -- RosettaNet today announced a new standard that can help manufacturers increase product speed to market by allowing trading partners to communicate new designs, design changes and engineering details in an automated electronic format in near real time. The new Engineering Information Management (EIM) standard helps ensure that design specifications will be communicated quickly and exactly as documented. Using the EIM standard, all documentation travels together so all information can be found in one place and one format, simplifying business processes, eliminating manual paper-based formats and reducing errors.

Development of the EIM standard was led by the RosettaNet Electronic Components Council, which included representatives from Sony, Toshiba, NEC, Fujitsu, Tyco Electronics, Masushita and Renesas Technology.

“The EIM standard provides flexibility, innovation and speed in the management of engineering information,” Mr. Katsumi Sato, EIM Milestone Program Director for Sony said. “This in turn will allow us to get new products to market faster thereby capturing premium prices.”

RosettaNet Standards allow trading partners to communicate in a common language using RosettaNet Partner Interface Processes® (PIPs®) to simplify and automate end-to-end e-business processes. The EIM Standard was created with ongoing, consistent flexibility using an XML schema structure PIP to allow just one aspect of the PIP to change; so when change or innovation occurs in the engineering process, a new PIP will not have to be created.

“Our member companies have created and implemented streamlined business processes to operate the most efficient supply chains in the high-tech industry and the Engineering Information Management standard is a direct result of this expertise,” Clement D. Erhardt, III, President of RosettaNet said. “Companies using the standard gain a real competitive advantage by ensuring that all trading partners’ design specifications and innovations are coordinated throughout the manufacturing process. The exchange of design information during the design process can be complex and this new standard simplifies that process.”
