As an internationally recognised sustainability strategist and leading business advisor, Dr. Blake's patronage will be of tremendous support in furthering the cause to eradicate ecocide, thereby changing the face of business and the global economy.
London (PRWEB) November 21, 2012
Eradicate Ecocide is pleased to announce that Dr. Martin Blake has agreed to become a patron of the London-based global movement, which has proposed an international law of Ecocide (the extensive destruction of ecosystems). The proposal to the United Nations is that Ecocide be added to existing Crimes Against Peace which include genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression, with a view to ending all ecocide and creating the paradigm shift that will enable sustainable development.
International barrister and award-winning author, Polly Higgins, who proposed the law of Ecocide, welcomed the new patron, saying, “As an internationally recognised sustainability strategist and leading business advisor, Dr. Blake's patronage will be of tremendous support in furthering the cause to eradicate Ecocide, thereby changing the face of business and the global economy by putting people and planet first."
Named one of the Top 100 Global Sustainability Leaders in 2011 and again in 2012, Dr. Blake is renowned for having designed and deployed one of the most successful energy conservation programmes in the world, saving millions annually and winning multiple national and international awards. He is highly valued for his innovative business strategies which support businesses to add value to the triple bottom line: people, planet and profit. He has particular expertise in Island sustainability practices in Bahrain, Singapore, Bali, Guam, Dominica and Magnetic Island, where he has worked with island communities to support sustainable business development whilst preserving and sustaining their fragile ecosystems.
Commenting on his patronage, Dr. Blake, owner of Blake Advisory, said, “This is an enormous privilege. Polly’s work has far-reaching implications as a catalyst of change with respect to this remarkable challenge. She has devised a simple and elegant solution to a heretofore-intractable problem. It’s no surprise that Polly has been honoured by being considered one of the World’s Top Visionary Thinkers by The Ecologist and named The Planet’s Lawyer by the 2010 Change Awards. I am delighted to be able to support her in her ongoing actions and work, and look forward to being one of the movement’s global advocates of the agenda to eradicate Ecocide.”
Polly Higgins and her legal team are dedicated to ending this era of Ecocide. The law that they advocate will create a new framework within which business and the global economy can operate in harmony with the Earth’s ecosystems, using them as renewable resources that will last forever, rather than commodities to be exploited just once. Progressive business leaders are calling governments to create such a strong legal framework so that they can put in place truly sustainable strategies. Thus the Law of Ecocide has the potential to trigger the transformation to the Green Economy. The Law of Ecocide is part of an emerging body of law called Earth Law; law which puts people and planet first.
