Explorys, a leader in big data-driven healthcare transformation, and Accenture (NYSE:ACN), a management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, today announced they will collaborate to combine leading-edge analytics with real world clinical evidence to improve patient care, outcomes, and costs by identifying optimal treatment patterns.
The first initiative by Explorys and Accenture focuses on population health approaches for diabetes care. Explorys provides the big data analytics platform to measure the effectiveness of changes in diabetes management protocols being piloted by Accenture and a global life sciences leader in the development of therapeutic solutions.
“The collaboration is an important step in bringing together big data solutions, clinical informatics, and life sciences expertise to better understand patient needs, identify high-risk patients, and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment protocols in improving patient outcomes,” said Anil Jain, M.D., senior VP and chief medical officer, Explorys.
According to The American Diabetes Association, diabetes is a leading cause of death and disability and one of the most expensive chronic conditions in the United States, resulting in a total annual economic cost of $245 billion. “As a progressively debilitating disease, diabetes will remain a critical area of focus for our health care provider partners in their value-based care efforts” said Anil Jain, M.D. “Diabetes imposes a staggering cost on our society, in both human and economic terms. Aggregating health information and using big data powered prescriptive analytics to develop better management and prevention strategies are priorities for provider and life sciences organizations.”
Healthcare is undergoing a transformation where stakeholders are rewarded for value, i.e., better health outcomes and lower costs. Improving management of chronic diseases like diabetes is critical in an environment, where reimbursement is tied to health standards for entire populations. A population-based approach using advanced analytics and risk models can identify and monitor the health status of patients with poorly controlled diabetes as well as those at-risk for adverse outcomes.
“Explorys is pleased to be powering Accenture’s Predictive Health Intelligence solution,” said Stephen McHale, CEO, Explorys. “We anticipate that this collaboration in a high-priority disease area like diabetes is the first of many.”
“We look forward to collaborating with Explorys as we launch Predictive Health Intelligence that provides a comprehensive set of analytics solutions to help global life sciences companies determine the precise combination of treatments and services that can lead to better patient, provider, and economic outcomes,” said Jeff Elton, global director for Accenture’s Life Sciences Predictive Health Intelligence.
