FIT Student Selkowitz Wins Bridesmaid Dress Makeover Contest

FIT student winner of bridesmaid dress makeover contest named

(Vocus/PRWEB ) June 24, 2008 -- Juda Selkowitz, a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), is the winner of a competition to transform a bridesmaid dress into the perfect outfit for a Friday night date, dinner, concert, or other festive occasion. Her design was chosen the best by visitors to Bridal Guide magazine's website. Bridal Guide and Alfred Angelo, a bridalwear manufacturer, sponsored the contest. Selkowitz, one of three finalists, won $1500.

The contest was open to all full-time FIT students majoring in Fashion Design. Bridal Guide provided each student with photos of three bridesmaid dresses. Participants submitted three sketches and fabric samples of the redesigned dresses. Each finalist then received an actual bridesmaid dress to redesign according to her sketch.

“It was a real test to fit and sew the dress in a way that made it look like a whole new garment and not something deconstructed or segmented,” Selkowitz said. A native of Shokan, NY, Selkowitz is a junior at FIT, specializing in special occasion and evening wear.

Karen Scheetz, associate professor and assistant chairperson of FIT’s Fashion Design–Art department, said, “This was a great opportunity for our students to show their creativity and gain valuable media exposure for themselves and FIT. We thank Bridal Guide and Alfred Angelo for bringing this contest to us.”
