With the fire department prepping for what they anticipate to be a historic year for brush fires, Fire Protection Group Inc. provides tips so that businesses can do their part in preventing the outbreak of fires wherever they can.

While it is the job of the LAFD to put out fires, individuals can do their part in preventing them from spreading.

Because of the unprecedented drought that Southern California is currently experiencing, fire fighters will have to be working especially hard in the upcoming fire season to battle brush and forest fires in the area.

According to a news release posted June 15th on the Los Angeles County Fire Department website, fire officials who gathered at a news conference in Diamond Bar stated that “This is not a typical fire season. We expect it to be above average.” Because of the unprecedented drought that Southern California is currently experiencing, firefighters will have to be working especially hard in the upcoming fire season to battle brush and forest fires in the area. This focus may take away many of the normal resources available to the local firehouses to deal with blazes in urban areas, says Fire Protection Group Inc. This means that local businesses should do their part in making sure their businesses are prepared to control the spread of a fire in their building and take some of the burden off area firefighters. According to Fire Protection Group Inc., here are some of the ways that businesses can do their part:

  • Install Fire Alarms – Especially in larger multilevel buildings where word of mouth is not sufficient in alerting all residents or employees of a fire, fire alarm systems are crucial for fire safety and preparedness. The first thing that must be done when a fire has been detected is to make sure that everyone in the area is safe, and there is no faster way that this can be accomplished than with a working fire alarm system. Fire Protection Group says that they have installed these systems in many buildings whose previous fire safety infrastructure has been entirely insufficient if a fire had broken out.
  • Install Fire Sprinklers – A well-designed and installed fire sprinkler system can be essential in preventing the spread of a fire throughout a building. Although it is not possible to forestall every possible human error that may cause a fire to start, fire sprinkler systems are engineered to prevent the fire from moving past its point of origin, especially in high risk areas such as restaurant kitchens.
  • Schedule Inspections – While having these systems installed in the first place is a good first step, Fire Protection Group Inc. notes that it is equally important that businesses schedule regular appointments to make sure that these systems will work properly when called upon. The worst time to realize that a system isn’t functioning is after a fire has already broken out, so Fire Protection Group stresses the importance of catching malfunctions early.

“While our firefighters work hard to keep us safe,” says Fire Protection Group, “It is still important that we all do our part to prevent damage from fires.” Anyone interested in scheduling an inspection, or those who would like more information on the various fire safety systems that Fire Protection Group Inc. can install, can call them at 888-732-4200 or visit them online at http://www.firesprinkler.com.
