Contributing to the expansion of our area’s trail network allows us to give back by serving thousands of residents and visitors with a healthier, more active, and more vibrant community.

Fort Wayne, IN (PRWEB) September 18, 2012

Fort Wayne Trails, the nonprofit organization promoting the use and expansion of Allen County’s trail network, today announced that the 1st Annual Trail Blazer 5K & 10K Fundraising Race will be held at Summit Middle School, located at 4509 Homestead Road on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.

This fundraising race is part of Fort Wayne Trails’ Countdown to Connectivity program, in which $5 million in grant funding is waiting to be unlocked. However, to unlock these funds Fort Wayne Trails must raise $1 million by December of 2013. Essentially every $1 given to or raised by Fort Wayne Trails becomes $6. There may never be a better time to donate.

The 2012 Trail Blazer 5K & 10K Fundraising Race is being presented by Lutheran Health Network Lutheran Hospital. “We are pleased to sponsor the Trail Blazer 5K & 10K fundraising race,” said Brian Bauer, CEO of Lutheran Hospital. “Contributing to the expansion of our area’s trail network allows us to give back by serving thousands of residents and visitors with a healthier, more active, and more vibrant community. With plans for trail expansion near our campuses, we see the trails as a tremendous opportunity to improve the quality of life in the city we call home, and this is critical to serving our patients and the community at large.” Gold sponsors include the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, Summit Brands, Tower Bank and Indiana Michigan Power. Silver sponsors include Carson Boxberger and Steel Dynamics. Blazer Backer sponsors include Ash Brokerage, JH Specialty, Fort Wayne Printing, Ellison Bakery and Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches. Sponsorships are still available; contact info(at)fwtrails(dot)org for more information.

“Proceeds from the event will be used to continue progress in our Countdown to Connectivity campaign, which will lead to 6.5 new miles of trails in every part of Allen County. In southwest Fort Wayne where the Trailblazer will be held, we’re working to fill in gaps in the trails along Covington and Engle Roads, which will greatly enhance the safety and viability of these corridors. When completed, the Countdown to Connectivity projects will link people to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, Glenbrook Square, several schools, parks, and many more retail and residential areas that are currently isolated” said Lori Keys, executive director, Fort Wayne Trails, Inc. “Public and corporate participation in events like this year’s Trail Blazer is vitally important to continuing connections like these and to the future quality of life in Ft. Wayne.”
