What: Ambassador Appia is available to meet with press to discuss recent pro-business initiatives adopted by France to further develop the financial, fiscal and academic landscape for innovation and development.

Why: France is home to the world’s fifth largest economy and is the number two recipient of foreign direct investment worldwide after the United States. French President Nicholas Sarkozy has made it a national priority to make France the leading business destination in Europe. Ambassador Appia will be in Chicago on Wednesday, December 9 to meet with local business leaders. Also, he will be speaking at the law firm of Baker & McKenzie on Thursday, December 10. This will be Appia’s first visit as Ambassador to Chicago and Detroit. There are many Chicago-based companies that have operations in France, including Abbott Laboratories, McDonald’s Hyatt, Kraft, Sara Lee and Motorola to name a few.
