“Not too long ago, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts had a worldwide reputation as being the birth place of freedom. Indeed our state helped give life to liberty itself and that historical deed was made possible by the civil right to keep and bear arms. The private ownership of firearms allowed our forefathers to shed themselves of the yoke of tyranny and set an example of individual freedom that has become the envy of the world. It is unfortunate that in recent years the congressional delegation from Massachusetts has chosen to cast the ultimate insult to our heritage. They have done so by shamefully attempting to place arbitrary restrictions and outright bans on the very right that gave us the freedoms we have.”
