The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has selected Federal Acquisition Service Assistant Commissioner William F. Webster to lead the 21 Gun Salute, GSA's initiative for increasing contracting opportunities for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs).

Washington (Vocus/PRWEB ) January 13, 2009 -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has selected Federal Acquisition Service Assistant Commissioner William F. Webster to lead the 21 Gun Salute, GSA's initiative for increasing contracting opportunities for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs). Mr. Webster, a Vietnam veteran, will serve as GSA's senior-level official responsible for implementing the agency's SDVOSB strategy, pursuant to Executive Order 13360. "I am honored to lead GSA's efforts in support of small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans," said Webster. "It is a privilege to advance the mission and goals of this initiative."

The 21 Gun Salute was established under the leadership of GSA Regional Administrator Brad Scott and Chief of Staff John Phelps. Based on preliminary data, GSA has exceeded the three percent SDVOSB prime contracting goal for the first time in fiscal year 2008.

"GSA has made tremendous strides in maximizing both the number and percentage of agency contract dollars to Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses," said acting GSA Administrator Jim Williams. "Bill's leadership of the 21 Gun Salute Initiative will be essential to building upon our past achievements and charting a steady course for continued success in the future."

GSA has made a commitment to expanding business opportunities for the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces, placing their personal safety and ambitions second to protecting our country.

GSA provides a centralized delivery system of products and services to the federal government, leveraging its enormous buying power to get the best value for taxpayers.

  • Founded in 1949, GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government's total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,600 government-owned or leased buildings and 208,000 vehicles.
  • GSA helps preserve our past and define our future, as a steward of more than 425 historic properties, and as manager of USA.gov, the official portal to federal government information and services.
  • GSA's mission to provide superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services, purchasing and E-Gov travel solutions and management policies, at best value, allows federal agencies to focus on their core missions.
Did you know? GSA's local Small Business Utilization offices are available to assist service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses throughout the contracting process.
