George Fox University Discusses Conservation Issues Oct. 3
The 17th Hoover Symposium features two scholars, panel discussion
Newberg, Ore. (Vocus/PRWEB ) September 12, 2009 -- George Fox University's Department of History and Political Science will host two scholars to discuss the legacy of President Herbert Hoover at its 17th Hoover Symposium, "Hebert Hoover: Conservationist," on Saturday, Oct. 3, in Room 105 of the university's Hoover Academic Building.
Joshua Hawley, author of Theodore Roosevelt: Preacher of Righteousness, will speak on the origins of the conservationist movement. Kendrick A. Clements, author of Hoover, Conservation, and Consumerism, will address the question of whether Hoover was a conservationist, an environmentalist, or something else.
In addition, a panel of experts will consider whether or not history can offer practical lessons for modern environmentalists.
The session is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the event concluding with tours of the Hoover-Minthorn House, the boyhood home of President Hoover.

The Hoover Symposium is sponsored by the George Fox Department of History and Political Science. It is directed by Hall, the university's Herbert Hoover Distinguished Professor of Political Science.
From 1885 to 1888, Hoover attended Friends Pacific Academy, which eventually grew into today's George Fox University. The university's Hoover-Hatfield Library in Hoover Academic Building includes several displays of Hoover memorabilia, some of which was donated by former U.S. Senator Mark Hatfield.
