White Plains, NY (PRWEB) June 29, 2012

Seth Kaller, a leading dealer and agent in historic documents, has announced the availability of a new catalog titled "Washington, the Revolution and the Founding." The 104 page catalog (http://issuu.com/sethkaller/docs/skiwashingtonbooklr618_final) contains over 100 historic documents and artifacts for sale, ranging from $25 to over $1,000,000, related to George Washington and the Declaration of Independence.

While the catalog has been in the planning stages for several months, it comes on the heels of a Christie's auction where a book owned by George Washington containing his own annotated copy of the Constitution, sold for $9,826,500, on June 22, more than three times what it was expected to draw.

Kaller was the agent for the seller of a Lincoln-signed Emancipation Proclamation, which brought $2,085,000 on June 26th at the Robert A. Siegel Auction Gallery. Kaller has now handled 8 of the 9 Lincoln signed copies of the Proclamation that were publicly sold in the last 40 years.

“The George Washington book set a new record for any presidential document. Given the strength at the highest end of the market, if the right document were to come up, the $10 million barrier could be broken in the near future," stated Kaller in a recent interview.

There is something for every level of collector in the catalog, from a 1783 voucher for tea for $25 to Washington's 'Throne of Grace' letter, written in the first two weeks of his Presidency, for $315,000 which will be on display at the National Museum of American Jewish History beginning June 29 in Philadelphia. Other items include:

  • a July 3, 1776 receipt for the purchase of saltpeter; the day between the July 2 resolution and the passage of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 ($2,750)
  • a Washington signed honorable discharge and Badge of Merit to a drummer ($14,500)
  • the first engraving of Washington Crossing the Delaware, Leutze's monumental work ($10,000)
  • Washington's 'Prize in View' letter where he seeks change in leadership, war, finance and government and lays out a survival strategy for a struggling nation ($300,000)
  • an extremely rare July 1776 broadside of the Declaration of Independence, 1 of only 6 known copies of the first printing in Massachusetts.

"People purchase historic documents and artifacts for many reasons; some have an interest in a particular figure or event, others purchase them to hand down to future generations. Some buyers acquire for personal enjoyment, others to donate to a particular library or museum," stated Kaller. "Whatever the reason, this catalog offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of history, and learn from the original documents at the bedrock of our nation’s history," he added.

For more than 20 years, Kaller has worked with individuals and institutions to build major collections and manage donations and loans. As an agent and dealer, the treasures he has acquired for clients include John Hancock’s letter announcing Independence, handwritten drafts of the U.S. Constitution, Abraham Lincoln’s signed 13th Amendment resolution, and Robert E. Lee’s proposal of surrender to U.S. Grant. Kaller has purchased and coordinated authentication on more than 50,000 documents,. He is currently offering more than 1000 items, including rare printings of drafts of the Bill of Rights (with two additional amendments that weren’t ratified), as well as numerous important signed letters and documents.
