Today GoGrid, a leading cloud infrastructure hosting provider, announced they will be deploying cloud services based on the powerful new Intel® Xeon® Processor 5600 series, formerly codenamed "Westmere".

Last year, Intel and GoGrid formally began collaborating to optimize platform selection, performance and energy efficiency to meet the emerging needs of their customers. "With the Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series, we get far more performance with significantly less power usage," said Paul Lappas, GoGrid VP engineering.
The Intel Xeon 5600 processor series will enable a dramatic power savings resulting in about a 50% reduction in energy consumption as compared to previous configuration. In addition, the higher performance of Xeon 5600 processors within the GoGrid node infrastructure allows supporting more customers and thus a 30% reduction in the cost-of-goods of server hardware.

New GoGrid nodes running with the new Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series will be implemented in the third quarter of 2010 and will be available to GoGrid customers shortly thereafter.
