Software mergers & acquisitions specialist Corum Group Ltd. today announced the acquisition of the Java and Ajax development tools division in its client, Instantiations, Inc. (“Instantiations”) by Google, Inc. (“Google”) in a strategic move to strengthen the Google Web Toolkit Team. Terms were not disclosed. With this acquisition, the core business and team associated with the Java and Ajax development at Instantiations have become a part of Google. Instantiations' VA Smalltalk business will continue to operate as an independent company headed by CEO Mike Taylor under the Instantiations name. The Google Web Toolkit (GWT) Designer has been so popular it was always assumed to be a Google creation, and today it has officially merged.

"Instantiations has been building robust, commercial development tools built on the Eclipse open-source IDE for some time. Their talent is well known when IBM sold VA Smalltalk to Instantiations, knowing and trusting the strong support would continue for their client base. Eric Clayberg, Dan Rubel and the rest of the Instantiations development team will be a significant asset to Google going forward. They are serious heavyweights,” said Bill Montgomery, Senior Vice President of Corum Group who advised on the deal.

Building on established operations, its established user base and strong Java and Ajax development tools, the Instantiations' team is looking forward to be strong contributors within Google. “ We are all very excited about taking our technology and team to the next level – and there is no bigger step up than Google!,” said Mike Taylor, Eric Clayberg and the rest of the team in a public statement.

Nat Burgess, President of Corum Group had the following to say, “Instantiations recruited and retained the world’s leading Java tools team, and was able to repurpose the team and technology to add value to Google’s Chrome OS. This is a great example of a small company building relevance and value with a large acquirer. Congratulations to the Instantiations team, and to Google, on a very promising transaction.”
