HCG Diet Direct is seeing more and more potential dieters searching for relief not just from annoying extra weight, but for a solution to severe health issues arising from obesity or near obesity. The prevalence of obesity amongst Americans is a well known (and long term) fact. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's studies, the severity of the obesity issue amongst Americans has increased drastically in the last 4 decades. Obesity amongst adults (aged 20-74 years old) increased from 15% in the 1976-1980 survey to 32.9% in the 2003-2004 survey.

The drastic increase is not only unhealthy in the physical sense, but it's unhealthy for the economy. Obesity and its associated health problems/risks have a noticeable negative impact on the U.S. health care system through both direct and indirect costs: preventive, diagnostic and treatment services are examples of the direct costs. Some examples of the indirect costs are: morbidity (income lost through decreased productivity, absenteeism, sick days, and limited activity) and mortality costs (future income that is lost due to premature death).

In surveys studying the national costs attributable to overweight and obesity the following was concluded:

  • 9.1% of the total medical costs for the US in 1998 were attributable to overweight /obesity.
  • The total amount could be estimated as high as $78.5 billion.
  • It is estimated that half of the costs were paid through Medicaid/Medicare.

Jenny Boynton of HCG Diet Direct suggested, "In today's economy people are looking for alternative solutions that cost less with the same results. The quick and easy and expensive methods popular as a remedy for overweight and obesity in the past several years are falling to the wayside and people are reaching for natural, affordable options."

Eric H., an HCG dieter, said, "After reading the statistics I'm doubly glad that I decided to try the HCG diet. I did it for myself. I needed to get healthy after realizing the risk of heart disease that runs in my family. But it's good to know that I'm doing my part to alleviate the economic stress we're all experiencing. Any little bit helps, I guess."
