Health Data Intelligence (HDI) is pleased to announce the availability of its cloud-based, SQL Server database for public access. Codenamed Agora, this powerful data warehouse is the driving force behind all of HDI’s customer-facing dashboards and analytic content. Agora is a secure, cloud-based SQL Server database containing the most comprehensive set of publicly-reported data sets available anywhere. It contains highly structured and normalized data on almost 6,000 US hospitals and clinics, including privately held and government-owned facilities. The constantly updated database includes the entire Hospital Compare dataset from CMS as well as other publicly available data sources at the state and local levels.
Access to this database makes it possible to conduct an almost unlimited number of studies on the clinical and financial performance of any number of US hospitals and health systems. With extensive, expertly-written user documentation, users are only limited by their ability to ask questions of the database. Agora is accessible with many commonly available database tools, including Microsoft’s SQL Server Management Studio.
Agora’s strengths lie in the benchmarking, quality reporting, and research studies domains. For benchmarking purposes, users are able to create an unlimited number of benchmarks based on any groups(s) of hospitals, geographical location (city, state, ZIP, etc.), hospital ownership type, etc.; rank the performance of any hospitals or health systems simultaneously across multiple clinical or financial metrics; compare performance trends across different reporting time periods going all the way back to 2005 for certain metrics; rank and compare hospitals and health systems to national performance and to performance within each US state for any time period chosen; and to rank and sort hospitals by percentiles for any clinical or financial category for any US geographical area, among other capabilities.
For quality reporting purposes, users are able to retrieve the performance scores of any hospital or groups of hospitals for any time period and for any publicly-reported metrics; determine which hospitals have the highest or lowest patient safety standards for any time period based on performance on patient safety measures; uncover which hospitals have the most satisfied or dissatisfied patients based on their patient satisfaction scores in any particular reporting period; find out which hospitals vaccinate their eligible patients the most against influenza and pneumonia during each flu season, among other things.
For purposes of conducting research studies, users are able to investigate regional, state, and national performance on clinical measure sets such as core measures, ED care, outpatient imaging efficiency, hospital complications (infections, patient safety events, etc.), immunizations, HCAHPS patient experience, mortality and readmissions, etc. as well as conduct research studies on regional, state, and national performance on financial measure sets such as Medicare DRG volumes and reimbursement, hospital claims histories, Medicare regional spending patterns, provider charges and payments, percent of covered charges billed versus paid, etc.
Agora enables hospitals, health systems, media organizations, academics, researchers, data scientists, and others to ask just about any question with regard to publicly reported clinical and financial data and to retrieve answers to those questions in fractions of a second.
