Harlow, Essex, UK (PRWEB UK) 25 March 2014
Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard optometry and ophthalmic equipment, hosted the first of a series of ‘Improving Outcomes’ biometry courses on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st March at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow. The course was a massive success with delegates attending from all over the UK.
The course included a mixture of practical workshops and presentations from experts in the field of biometry, including; Dr Sathish Srinivasan, Consultant Ophthalmologist, University Hospital Ayr, Dr Jonathan Ross, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Borders General Hospital and and Mr Shahriar Nabili, Consultant Ophthalmologist, Hairmyres Hospital, Lanarkshire.
Feedback showed that the workshops were particularly successful, with topics including; Formulae for IOL power calculation, toric IOL planning, interpretation of measurement data and an introduction to T-cone.
Hands-on demonstrations with the Haag-Streit LENSTAR biometer were also available during the two-day course. The LENSTAR provides nine measurements per scan in under 30 seconds, improving accuracy and accelerating workflow. The biometer offers more precise K readings than any other optical biometer and all standard IOL predictions are built in to the software.
Delegate, Ruth Marini, Staff Nurse, St Johns Hospital, said, “This has been an excellent course, which was relevant to both Nurses carrying out biometry and Consultants performing surgery.”
Steve Thomson, International Sales Manager, Haag-Streit Diagnostics said, “We are delighted with the terrific level of interest and excellent feedback we have received in response to the ‘Improving Outcomes’ courses, held recently in Glasgow. This clearly shows there is a drive to improve cataract surgery outcomes in Scotland. Haag-Streit look forward to supporting future educational workshops throughout the UK later this year.”
