Oahu Revealed for iOS completes the Hawaii Revealed travel app series based on the popular guidebooks by Andrew Doughty: Oahu Revealed, Maui Revealed, Hawaii the Big Island Revealed and the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook
Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) February 02, 2013
Oahu Revealed is a new iPhone travel app in the Hawaii Revealed series of travel apps from Crystal Springs Software, LLC. The other Hawaii Revealed travel apps, Maui Revealed, Kauai Revealed, and the Big Island Revealed have also just been updated with support for the iPhone 5 and Apple Maps turn by turn driving directions..
Ease of use
The Hawaii Revealed series of travel apps reinvent the guidebook around a location-centric map interface that sets a new standard for ease of use and power in travel apps. Nothing beats a book for researching a trip, but the Hawaii Revealed apps can dynamically create custom guidebook lists for any point on the island. With just two taps, "Locate Me" and "What's Nearby", a list of everything to do, see and eat around that location on the map is displayed. And with another tap, it is easy to drill down and read the complete guidebook entry for any of the nearby places. These apps are the perfect companions to the guidebooks and are designed for use on the go.
Great Travel Maps
The Maps in the Hawaii Revealed travel apps are unique because they were designed by the author as travel maps to go with the guidebooks. The maps are stored offline on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. They are fast, interactive and work without the need for a cell signal. Offline maps are important for remote areas that don't have cell coverage. The maps have features such as shaded relief detail to show elevation changes, mile markers on the roads, geo-accurate hiking trails that can't be found on other maps, beach access paths, clearly marked parking areas, and the names of beaches, sights and landmarks that tie the maps to the books. The map can be used to navigate to any destination in the book. The Directions links on the guidebook pages also provide spoken turn by turn directions in Apple Maps (GPS required for navigation features).
Mobile apps are easy to carry in a purse or pocket and are great for traveling. The Hawaii Revealed travel apps allow the creation of custom lists of favorites, with every page in the app having an "Add to Favorites" link. The Favorites list is great tool for organizing daily activities, and it is possible to edit the list and drag the list items into any desired order, such as organizing the list by day or location. The apps can also be used to plan where to stay, with a powerful "Where to Stay" section that allows the lists of Hotels, Condos, and Hostels to be sorted by Location, Type, Price, Rating or Name. The "Dining" section has similar sorting capabilities for researching restaurant choices. And with the convenient "Map It" buttons, the location of any hotel, restaurant, sight or activity can quickly be seen on the map.
Andrew Doughty's recommendations are both entertaining and reliable. The author lives his guidebooks. He eats in the restaurants and does all the activities: snorkeling, hiking, diving, kayaking, taking tours, etc. so that he can share his experiences and make useful recommendations and comparisons in his books and apps. The author solicits feedback from his readers. Every page of the app has a "Send Feedback" button that lets readers share their travel experiences with the author. He compiles the feedback and considers it in his reviews, often noting when his experiences are different than those of his readers.
