New HemCon®/Seal-On™ Nasal Plugs Control Nosebleeds Quickly, Effectively and Comfortably

Wound Care Innovator Introduces Easy-to-Use Products for Professional and Consumer Use

Portland, Ore. (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 15, 2009 -- HemCon Medical Technologies, Inc. today announced that its new HemCon Nasal Plugs and Seal-On devices are now available for use in both professional and home settings for anterior nasal bleeding. The nasal care products will be available from HemCon directly to consumers under the Seal-On brand, and for professionals under the HemCon Nasal Plug brand through distribution partners.

Designed for ease of use, the HemCon Nasal Plugs are comprised of a PVA foam impregnated with a proprietary, active ingredient, m.doc, a microdispersed oxidized cellulose. When in contact with blood, the dressing rapidly expands to provide pressure and absorb blood, offering patients a quick, comfortable and reliable solution to stop nasal bleeding. "My crews are thrilled with the HemCon Nasal Plugs. They work incredibly fast and really make a difference when treating nosebleeds in the field. We look forward to carrying them on all of our ambulances from now on," said Vic Cram, Paramedic Coordinator, Columbine Ambulance in Littleton, CO.

Unlike other devices, the HemCon dressings are both pain and burn free. The exterior of the plugs are coated and prevent the plugs from sticking to the walls of the nose during removal. When bleeding has been controlled, the patient can carefully remove the plug from the nose and discard it. Ready for removal within an hour, there is no need to keep these plugs in place long term, blocking patient airways or requiring a revisit to an M.D. for removal.

"Every year, nearly half a million people seek treatment for heavy nose bleeds that could be better treated with our dressings," said John W. Morgan, CEO of HemCon. "HemCon Nasal Plugs offer an easy solution to halt bleeding comfortably and rapidly, saving time for patients and caregivers alike."

Heavy nosebleeds can be triggered by a number of physical and environmental factors, including age, medical conditions, and climate. According to a recent Harris Interactive poll, one out of every five adults surveyed experienced a nosebleed in the past 12 months. It is estimated that one in every 200 emergency room visits are due to nosebleeds.
