HensonFuerst is giving local teens the chance to make their directorial debuts by hosting a video public service announcement (PSA) contest in eastern North Carolina this spring. The mission of the PSA contest, which focuses on bicycle safety, is to help young people make a difference by giving them the chance to express their feelings while addressing issues important to teens.
"As cycling continues to grow in our community, more instances of bicycle-related accidents are a real possibility," attorney Thomas W. Henson Jr. said. "Understanding the importance of proper riding skills, traffic rules, and helmet safety are key elements in keeping everyone on the road safe and accident-free."
High school students (grades 9 to 12) can enter 28- to 29-second video PSAs addressing the importance of bicycle safety. The PSAs will be judged on students' abilities to analyze and discuss the topic and produce a quality video.
The student who creates the winning PSA can choose between receiving a Mac laptop computer with movie-making software or a $1,500 gift card to an electronics store; the winning student's school will receive a $500 donation; and the winning PSA will be aired on television, the HensonFuerst Web site, and My PSA Contest's Web site. Entries are due Monday, April 13, 2009.
