Select Your Cause — Send a Card: New E-Card Site Lets You Do Good and Stay in Touch
Here Comes the Card members select from 1,000+ original photographs and support 40+ charities.
San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) April 25, 2007 -- “Use your strengths to help others” is the fatherly advice that stuck and sparked the launch of Here Comes the Card , an online card company featuring 1,000+ photographs by Kathleen Kendrick and Maura Kendrick Allen, two sisters who share a passion for photography and travel. The sisters donate 50% of membership fees ($4/month or $24/year) generated by the Here Comes the Card site to more than 40 featured charities.
“From helping children in need to supporting groups focused on the environment or critical health issues, members are invited to select the cause that reflects their passion. In return, we donate half of our member fees to the cause they’ve selected,” said Kathleen Kendrick, Here Comes the Card co-founder. “Our goal is to provide an easy way for people to stay in touch and help others, too.”
Each of the 40+ charities featured on the site are national or global in reach and have received three- or four-star ratings from Charity Navigator , an affirmation of each charity’s effective use of funding and ability to make a difference. Based on member input, new charities will be added quarterly.
Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in a family of eight of children, the Kendrick sisters have photographed and traveled together to different parts of the world for 25+ years. When the two grew frustrated with current e-card offerings, they decided to build their own with a strong tie to the community.
“Every person has the ability to help others in some way. As sisters, we’re lucky to have found a way to use our creative talent to help others—and to do it together,” said Maura Kendrick Allen, a Here Comes the Card co-founder.
To join, new members simply select their “cause for a card” from the 40 featured charities, choose either monthly or annual membership, and can start sending an unlimited number of online cards. Each arrives directly from the member’s personal email and appears in full view, free of banner ads. The site’s 1,000+ photographs are arranged in easy to navigate portfolios, including Art/ Architecture, Travel, Nature and Slice of Life, as well as a seasonal portfolios. The site’s “My Cards” area lets members review and resend their cards. The sisters update the site daily with new photographs.
“Finding stylish e-cards isn’t easy,” added Maura. “We wanted to present original images in a serene, gallery-like environment. For us, that meant providing the ability to both send and receive e-cards free of ads for hemorrhoids or house cleaners.”
For those not ready to select a cause and become a member, Here Comes the Card lets you send your first five cards free. Emeryville, California-based [Turing Studio worked with the Kendrick sisters to build the site.
