Temperatures Rise as Hersheypark Debuts 11th Roller Coaster

“Heat Up” With Fahrenheit and “Cool Down” With The Boardwalk at Hersheypark

Hershey, PA (Vocus/PRWEB ) April 14, 2008 -- Beginning May 24, guests at Hersheypark can heat up their day with an exhilarating ride on the Park’s 11th roller coaster, Fahrenheit. Following this hot new ride, guests can cool down at The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, the Park’s tribute to the legendary beaches and boardwalks of the Northeast.

Fahrenheit, a “vertical-lift, inverted-loop coaster” that positions riders on their backs as they climb the first hill, offers riders an adrenaline-pumping, 90-degree ascent to the summit of a 121-foot lift. As the cars crest the hill, riders lean forward and see no track visible directly below before plummeting down a staggering 97-degree first drop, the steepest drop of any coaster in the United States.

At the bottom of the first hill, the coaster travels at 58 mph as it begins another ascent to the top of a 107-foot inverted loop and then drops riders into the loop. Coming out of the inverted loop, the track twists though a cobra element and continues into an airborne inverted S roll and then into a second airborne inverted S roll. The action continues with a high-speed/high-banked curve, an airtime hill, then another high-speed/high-banked curve and a second airtime hill before entering the brake section of the ride, where the train will slow before arriving back in the station.

Traveling over more than 2,700 feet of steel track in 85 seconds, Fahrenheit features three four-person vehicles per train and a capacity of about 850 people per hour.

The ride was designed and built by IntaRide LLC, the company that brought the famous Storm Runner roller coaster to Hersheypark in 2004. Fahrenheit is located adjacent to The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, where guests can cool down with five refreshing water attractions, including the world’s largest water-play structure.

Also beginning May 24, guests will be treated to a “hot” fireworks display presented by Capital BlueCross. Fireworks are scheduled every Saturday night through August 30, weather permitting.
In keeping with the Park’s philosophy of offering something for every member of the family, a second new ride – Howler – will debut for the 101st season of Hersheypark.

Howler is a “Tornado” ride that allows riders to spin their cars to create their own ride experience. It has eight four-passenger, sphere-shaped cars that rotate counter-clockwise from a center base. As the rotation reaches 10 rpm, the ride lifts 7 ½ feet into the air at a 20-degree angle. The ride, manufactured by Wisdom Industries, Ltd., will be located adjacent to the Rodeo ride in the Park’s Pioneer Frontier area. Howler opens May 2.

For more information or to take a “virtual” ride on Fahrenheit, please visit Hersheypark.com. Hersheypark opens for its 101st season on Friday, May 2. Fahrenheit and The Boardwalk at Hersheypark open on Saturday, May 24.
