In a series of new videos on The Career Key YouTube channel, Career Key author Dr. Lawrence K. Jones shows youth and adults how to achieve career and college success using Holland’s theory of career choice and decision making theory. Dr. Jones, a nationally recognized counseling psychologist, developed a scientifically valid career test based on Holland’s Theory; the Career Key website contains many self-help articles on Holland’s Theory and decision making.
The series, “How to Achieve Career and College Success” includes two parts, (1) short videos explaining each of the six big ideas in Holland’s theory and how they relate to choosing a career or major, and (2) how to make a good career and education decision.
Holland’s theory of career choice is one of the most respected and widely used career theories by professional career counselors. According to the theory, most people are strongest in one or two of six Holland personality types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional (RIASEC). They are also referred to as Holland codes.
In addition to covering the six personality types and the Holland hexagon, the videos explain the impact of lesser known but equally important Holland work and college major environments. How people interact with one another in the workplace and a program of study is a key ingredient to understanding oneself and the future success of one’s career and education choices.
The videos include:
How to Achieve Career and College Success, Introduction
The Six Holland Personality Types
The Six Holland Environments
Holland Environments: searching for and interacting with them
The Holland Hexagon: how to use with careers and majors
Congruence: making a good match
Soon, more videos will be published about how to make a good decision, and how to interpret Holland codes’ scores.
