People think of car accidents happening on long drives or in unusual situations, but it's the routine trip that gets a driver into trouble.

Houston, Texas (PRWEB) October 18, 2012

Houston car accident attorney Kevin Krist of the Law Offices of Kevin Krist today endorsed the goals of returning to the basics of safe driving for Drive Safely Work Week, including eliminating distracted driving, using seat belts and remembering the fundamentals of safe driving.

Drive Safely Work Week, held each October, is an annual safe-driving campaign sponsored by the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS). This year's campaign theme, “Back to Basics – Your Keys To Safe Driving,” encourages drivers to refrain from multi-tasking behind the wheel and to remember the basics of their driver training.

Krist, whose law firm investigates car accidents in Southeast Texas in the preparation of personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits on behalf of people hurt by careless and reckless drivers, said distracted driving and driver negligence are factors in many car crashes.

“Americans drive an average of 12,000 to 15,000 miles each year, with a significant portion of that travel happening during their commute or other work-related driving,” Krist said. “People think of car accidents happening on long drives or in unusual situations, but it's the routine trip that gets a driver into trouble.

“In keeping with the 'back to basics' theme of Drive Safely Work Week, our advice to commuters is to remain vigilant while on the road instead of falling prey to the false notion that a routine drive is somehow safe,” he said.

Drive Safely Work Week is a five-day campaign designed as a means for employers to share safe-driving tips with employees. The week is to start with reminders to wear a seat belt on every trip, and subsequent days will include:

  •     Steering with a Clear Head (avoiding driver fatigue)
  •     Driving Distraction-Free
  •     Parking and Backing Basics
  •     Fine-Tune the Fundamentals (with tips and activities for avoiding some of the most common types of car crashes).

“Our investigations show again and again that most car accidents result from someone’s negligence,” Krist said. “They don't ‘just happen’ and, in most cases, they shouldn’t have happened at all. Drivers overlook the basics of safe driving and, in the blink of an eye, a car wreck causes a catastrophic injury or death.”

Krist said Texans who have been injured in automobile wrecks or who have lost family members in car crashes should seek the advice of an experienced Houston auto accident attorney.

“If you've been injured in a crash that was someone else's fault, you have rights,” the veteran attorney said. “You deserve to be made whole financially for your losses.”
