D.C.-Area Workshop Highlights Trends and Best Practices Impacting Public and Private Sector Facilities
Federal, military and private sector leaders from across the country will bring their built environment expertise to the doorstep of the nation's capital for the third annual Facilities Management Workshop, Aug. 26-27 at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, Va.
Houston, TX (Vocus/PRWEB ) August 18, 2009 -- Federal, military and private sector leaders from across the country will bring their built environment expertise to the doorstep of the nation's capital for the third annual Facilities Management Workshop, Aug. 26-27 at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, Va.
A joint venture between the Society of American Military Engineers and the International Facility Management Association, in coordination with the National Academies of Sciences' Federal Facilities Council, the two-day event will address challenges facing senior government facility professionals, with a particular focus on the economy, and will offer attendees best practices they can incorporate themselves.
The workshop will include a keynote presentation from APPA Executive Vice President Lander Medlin on total cost of ownership and facilities decision making, along with five expert panels on topics such as sustainability, energy management, resource justification, best practices in real property asset management and workforce development. Representatives from ARAMARK, Booz Allen Hamilton, Honeywell, the Smithsonian Institution and multiple branches of the U.S. military will speak. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to interact with presenters and discuss facility management issues and best practices.
"In this workshop, we're dealing with the economics of FM," said retired U.S. Air Force Col. Ronald V. Sachse, CFM, of Scitor Corp., who will moderate the workshop's sustainability panel.
"Sustainability is about how we can meet the needs of today and not adversely affect the needs of our children and future generations. We want to help facility professionals in the military services and federal agencies better address long- and short-term concerns to meet and sustain their customers' requirements and the mission of their organizations."
The Facilities Management Workshop program will run from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27. The workshop's first day will concentrate on sustainability and workforce development, while the second day will focus on energy management, resource justification and asset management.
The workshop has been coordinated with IFMA's CFM® Exam Review Course, held Aug. 24-25 in Washington, D.C., and the LEED® for DOD Projects Workshop, held immediately before the Facilities Management Workshop on Aug. 26.
