We must all be concerned with the future of cancer care because cancer touches one out of two men and one out of three women

Valley Forge, PA (PRWEB) October 09, 2012

ION Solutions, a company of AmerisourceBergen Corporation, recently participated in the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) Hill Day. Representatives from ION Solutions joined more than 90 other patients, advocates and healthcare professionals to speak with members of Congress about drug shortages, reimbursement cuts and other national issues that have impacted patients’ access to quality care.

This is the fourth consecutive year that a group organized by COA and Community Oncology Alliance Patient Advocate Network (CPAN) has met with legislators on behalf of cancer care. COA and CPAN’s mission is to provide oncology practices with a voice and the resources to protect the viability of the cancer care delivery system—a mission shared by ION Solutions as well.

“Physicians, administrators, nurses and other care team members came together with patients and advocates at Hill Day 2012 to meet with senators and congressmen about the many issues challenging access to affordable, local cancer care,” said Dr. David Eagle, president of COA. “We must all be concerned with the future of cancer care because cancer touches one out of two men and one out of three women. We are grateful that ION Solutions took the time to travel to Washington to educate legislators and speak out on behalf of cancer patients.”

“Four out of five cancer patients in this country are treated in the community setting,” said Mark Santos, president of group purchasing services for ION Solutions. “But the reimbursement model for community oncology is broken. We need appropriate reimbursement in the community setting if we want to patients to continue receiving high quality, affordable care in locations that keep them close to their local support networks. Working with COA and CPAN to educate our lawmakers is one way we support this important cause.”
