Middle Fork River Expeditions Goes Carbon Neutral with the Use of Carbon Offsets

Leave no trace ethics, a 100% recycling program and new vegetable oil-run vehicles.

Stanley, Idaho (PRWEB) June 12, 2008 – Middle Fork River Expeditions becomes the first Idaho river outfitter to become completely carbon neutral through aggressive environmental practices on and off the river. MFRE leads the way in Environmental Stewardship as an industry leader on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Central Idaho by offsetting all of it's operations. 100% of all waste is recycled after the river trip, including food waste to a pig farm. A purchase of two vegetable tank allows MFRE to use old vegetable oil from the Mountain Village (www.mountainvillage.com) to power it's fleet of vehicles.

MFRE offers 3,5, and 6 day rafting trips on the legendary Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, which flows through the 2.7 million acre Frank Church Wilderness of No Return. MFRE has carbon offset everything from the internal and external operations of the company, even down to the amount of charcoal burned during the trip.

MFRE recycles plastic (#1 & #2 only), paper, glass, cardboard, tin, and food waste from the trips, becoming the first outfitter in Idaho to recycle all of it's operation both on and off the river. The recycling is done in Hailey, Idaho, about an hour away from Stanley, Idaho. The food waste is given to a Alpha Omega Ranch (www.nigeriansandicelandics.com) in Salmon, Idaho for feeding it’s breeding pigs. MFRE then purchases pork from the farm from the pigs which are raised for consumption and uses the pork on it's river trips.

The recent purchase of a vegetable fuel system from Golden Fuels Systems (www.goldenfuelsystems.com) allows MFRE to use all recycled vegetable oil from various restaurants in the Stanley Basin. The storage tanks sit in the bed of a pickup and have a storage capacity of 120 gallons. MFRE is also in process of purchasing a diesel bus to be run on used vegetable oil.

Middle Fork River Expeditions, licensed and bonded outfitter, has run safe and well-managed river trips on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho for 28 years. Trips are 3, 5 or 6 days of exciting river rafting, wilderness camping, fine fishing, and adventure travel. Join Middle Fork River Expeditions for a magical wilderness river vacation and help protect the environment as well.
