Identigene, the DNA laboratory that produces the only DNA paternity test sold in drugstores, has expanded its reach to supercenters across the U.S. The DNA test will now be available in approximately 3,500 additional stores.
Identigene Executive Director Steve Smith says, “Our goal has always been to make paternity testing affordable and accessible to everyone. Adding so many new stores, especially in rural markets, goes a long way toward making accurate paternity results convenient for everyone in America.”
Since 2007, major drugstores have offered their customers the Identigene DNA paternity test kit. The kit is either merchandised in the Family Planning or the Home Testing aisle. Smith says, “Expanding retail presence is so important because it’s more chances for people to see the kit on the shelf and become aware that a DNA paternity test is available and affordable.” A recent U.S. survey commissioned by Identigene found that one in ten (11 percent) adults have personally been in a situation where a paternity test was appropriate and one in five people have had a close friend or family member question paternity. Yet, most Americans are unaware that DNA testing technology is accessible from the drugstore—and now supercenters.
The Identigene DNA paternity test is 100% accurate and provides online results two business days after specimens arrive at the laboratory in Salt Lake City, Utah. Included in the kit are three sets of Buccal swabs (cheek swabs) for mother, child and alleged father, three specimen collection envelopes, English/Spanish instructions and a postage-paid envelope for submitting forms and specimens to the laboratory. If consumers want to use test results in court, Identigene offers the option to pay an additional $200 fee to have the specimen collection witnessed by an independent third party.
Identigene is a global leader in DNA paternity testing, providing both personal and legal paternity tests, as well as grandparent, sibling and other relationship tests. Identigene is the only paternity test kit available on the retail shelf, and can be purchased in nearly 25,000 drugstores and supercenters nationwide. Identigene is one of the most highly accredited laboratories in the world and the oldest fully-accredited laboratory in the world.
