Imprint Culture Lab Conference: NYC -- Keynotes by Marc Ecko, KidRobot Founder Paul Budnitz, Among Others

Pathfinders Talk About Redefining Way Out of Recession-Depression, Into the Future

New York (Vocus/PRWEB ) August 14, 2009 -- Key figures in graphic design, cuisine, lifestyle branding and journalism speak in a day of keynotes and conversations at the Center for Architecture in New York City (536 La Guardia Place, between Bleecker and W. 3rd St.s).

The theme of the fourth annual Imprint Culture Lab conference is "Pathfinders." Pathfinders create inroads to new opportunities and exit roads from flailing establishments. Pathfinders are paramount in a world suddenly forced into consumer maturity. Eight exceptional pathfinders talk about the burdens of change and expectation in this watershed moment in global politics and economy.

Stephen Engelberg is the managing editor of Propublica.org, a nonprofit news organization that publishes stories with "moral force," and is highly-regarded both in terms of page views and critical acclaim. In his capacity as managing editor of The Oregonian and founding editor of the investigative unit at The New York Times, Engelberg oversaw Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of political corruption in Mexico and the rise of Al Qaeda. He talks about the post-print "newspaper."

Paula Scher & Chip Kidd -- Two more popular graphic designers you will not find. The former is a principal at Pentagram, one of the world's most distinguished design firms, and is responsible for the face of Citibank, ''The Daily Show'' and The Met, to name a few. The latter has designed over a thousand book covers in his storied career moonlighting as comics aficionado and Art Director of Knopf. He has been the subject of two books and a ''Jeopardy!'' question. Paula and Chip discuss the future of graphic design.

Jane Goldman is founder of CHOW.com, the most visited food media portal on the internet. She is also the Vice President and editor-in-chief of CBS Interactive's Lifestyle brands. Brian Halweil is the publisher of EdibleBrooklyn and EdibleManhattan as well as the editor of EdibleEast End, and is at the forefront of the "eat local" movement. June Russell is the Farms Inspection Coordinator for Greenmarket, the largest network of farmers' markets in the country. Jane, Brian and June discuss the importance of eating earnest.

Paul Budnitz is the founder of vinyl toy and lifestyle brand KidRobot. As a hacker and movie producer Budnitz has had several successful careers, including tinkering with cult-objects of nostalgia like the Commodore 64. Today he helms the most important designer toy company in America.

Marc Ecko & jeffstaple -- Two vanguards in streetwear design and lifestyle branding converse in a signature Imprint Lab conversation. jeffstaple, founder and designer of Staple Design, interviews Marc Ecko in an Imprint Culture Lab 1-2-1 about what it means to be an entrepreneur in an economic downturn.

Imprint Culture Lab migrates from Los Angeles to New York City for the first time this year, and will be followed by a reception at the Soho Grand Penthouse, sponsored by the hotel and Belvedere Vodka.
