Web2 Corp’s ByIndia.com Soaring in Popularity

ByIndia’s search blended with social networking, video, blogs, auctions and classifieds is driving 20% daily growth in traffic; site eclipses Guruji according to Alexa.com.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) November 16, 2006 -- New features added by Web2 Corporation (NASDAQ: WBTO) to its recently acquired ByIndia.com search engine have ignited a rocket shot of consumer adoption. The first Indian-focused search engine to add integrated social networking similar to MySpace, video similar to YouTube, blogs, auctions, classified and directories has seen nearly a five-fold increase in site visitation and strong increases in page views per visitor over the last week. This performance catapults ByIndia ahead of other India-centric search start-ups and establishes it as a serious contender for market share.

Combining many popular Web 2.0 features into a classic search engine targeting India has been a clear winning strategy for ByIndia. The site, built by Indians for Indians, was acquired by Web2 Corp last month with plans to expand its scope and provide necessary marketing support. Web2 immediately set about integrating the other proven elements into the ByIndia mix and launched the new features last week. Results were nearly immediate and viral user growth has ensued.

In site rankings on Alexa.com, ByIndia has risen from the 750,000th ranked site on the Internet to 12,745th position in the past several weeks. The same Alexa ranking shows the site now reaches 85 visitors per million on the Internet versus under 20 visitors per million just one week ago. This is an impressive gain and the trend indicates it is accelerating as more Indians learn of the site from their friends. Visitors are spending more time as well. Page views per visitor have increased by nearly 50%. ByIndia.com appears to be picking up steam.
