At meebo, our mission is to connect people live on the Web

Mountain View, Calif. (PRWEB) November 20, 2007 -- meebo, a website for instant messaging, today announced that more than 20 games are now available to meebo users through the recently-launched meebo Platform. The games have been contributed by third-party developers using the recently-launched meebo Platform APIs. Titles from 3rd Sense, Absolutist, AddictingGames, BladeSix, Clearspring Technologies, Come2Play, Gamebrew, MediaGreenhouse, Mochi Media, Jiggmin, Kongregate, PlayFirst, Presidio Media, and ZeroCode exemplify the kinds of multiuser and synchronous applications being built on the meebo Platform every day. Since the October 30th Platform launch, more than 200 developers have registered applications for the meebo Platform and are working to make meebo the live interaction destination on the Web. Future categories of applications will include shopping, productivity and work applications, music and video entertainment.

"At meebo, our mission is to connect people live on the Web," said Seth Sternberg, CEO, meebo. "These multiplayer games will make the meebo experience more fun and give our users new ways to connect live with their buddies."

Games are the latest addition to the meebo platform, making meebo one of the Web's most compelling destinations for multiplayer and synchronous interactions. The October 30th launch of the meebo Platform made voice chat, group voice calling, video and audio calling and live broadcast available to meebo users. meebo will now offer a constantly updated catalog of multiplayer games allowing friends to play live, in head-to-head competition or in group play. The games launching today include AddictingGames' Fratboy Unicycle Relay, Animal Jigsaw 100, Artillery Live, Attack, Backgammon, Battle Pool, Blackjack, Checkers, Chess, Connect4, Go, Kongregate Racing, Match4, Music Man, Picture This!, Pirate War, Platform Racing, Reversi, Sheep Me, Sploder, Sudoku Wars, Tactics 100 Live, Texas Hold 'em Poker, and World Jigsaw 100.

"Online games, and AddictingGames' content in particular, are socially interactive experiences," said Dave Williams, SVP of AddictingGames. "AddictingGames' content focuses on current pop culture for teens and the college demographic, making these games particularly buzz-worthy and something our users like to discuss on our site. meebo provides an excellent distribution platform and another place for this kind of interaction around our games."

The meebo Platform gives third-party developers a hassle-free revenue stream to monetize their applications. meebo is securing premium revenue relationships and will run user-friendly ads while applications run. meebo will then share that revenue with third-party application developers. Alternatively, meebo offers third-party developers the ability to opt out of the revenue sharing arrangement and run their own ads on their application.

The launch of games closely follows the buzz around the announcement of the company's partnership with Joost, the launch of the meebo Platform, an iPhone-optimized edition of meebo, and the meebo Extension for Firefox - and therefore marks the company's fifth significant innovation in less than fourth months.

The release also coincides with an extended period of rapid usage growth for meebo. According to Nielsen//NetRatings, meebo is the fastest-growing IM destination in the US - ahead of Google Talk (GOOG) and Skype Messenger (EBAY). Similar to mobile phones and social networks, IM has near-ubiquitous adoption. An estimated 500 million people use it worldwide (Radicati). According to Gartner, 66% of teens and young adults IM more than they e-mail.

Lunch 2.0 and meebo Dev Camp
On November 30, meebo will open its doors for the first official meebo Dev Camp for developers and potential partners. At 12:00 PM PST, the company will host a Lunch 2.0 for all comers at meebo's Mountain View office, located at 215 Castro Street, 3rd floor. When lunch concludes, those interested in the meebo Platform can stick around and work directly with meebo developers to begin creating synchronous applications - or put finishing touches on ones already in progress.

Additionally, meebo will offer virtual office hours to connect remote developers with the meebo team via video and audio calls. Interested? Email meeboplatform@meebo.com for more information. Developers of all kinds can learn more and register their application at meebo.com/platform. Applications are built on common open Web standards such as JavaScript and Flash.
