Neurosurgeon Shares Life, Career in New Book
NORTHFIELD, Ill. (PRWEB) August 30, 2016 -- “Listen to the Patient: Of Life and Neurosurgery” (published by Archway Publishing) explores the life and experiences of the author, Ivan Ciric, MD. Through a series of patient stories and descriptions of operations, the memoir describes the steps leading to a brain operation and it shares the intricate details of brain operations for a number of neurologic maladies in an easy to understand prose.
“I weave together the story of my life that brought me from a continent and ocean away to the US with the meaning, secrets and ethical aspects of neurosurgery, including the unique privilege and daunting responsibility of navigating through the hidden nooks and crannies of the human brain,” Ciric says.
“I also wanted to share with my colleagues, especially the younger generation of neurosurgeons, the lessons I learned practicing neurosurgery for half a century. Aware of the interest in neurosurgery among the lay public, I wanted to put a human face on neurosurgeon’s work, including exhilaration of successful outcomes and despair of failures.”
An excerpt from “Listen to the Patient”:
Each and every patient who saw me in consultation over a period close to half a century, including those who required surgery, regardless of the outcome, has taught me a lesson in wisdom, humility, and humanity. Being honest and always taking the high road, not only as healers but also, just as importantly, with ourselves, is the only way to navigate the hurdles in life with our hearts at peace and our souls pure.
