Jay Jaffe, the late founder and CEO of Jaffe PR, a full-service legal marketing and PR agency, has been recognized by the National Law Journal as one of the legal profession’s pioneering communicators in its inaugural list of “50 Business of Law Trailblazers & Pioneers,” issued December 17.

“As we were contemplating the NLJ 50 Business of Law Trailblazers & Pioneers, it seems that every time we explained the idea, we got the same reaction: ‘Oh, you mean people like Jay Jaffe,’” noted the National Law Journal. “As someone who was frequently introduced as ‘the man who invented law firm marketing,’ we are proud to honor Jay Jaffe in memoriam.”

The description also adds about Mr. Jaffe, “… helped firms answer the seminal questions: ‘How much should law firms spend on marketing, how can firms get lawyers to take reputation management seriously and how do you measure ROI?’” and notes that “The agency Jaffe founded has continued to thrive since his passing last year, and it is clear his impact there lives on.”

The list honors individuals who have changed the ways in which law firms conduct business.

“Jay did more than start a company; he helped create an industry,” said Vivian Hood, Managing Director of Client Services at Jaffe PR. “We are honored and touched that the National Law Journal gave him this recognition.”

In addition to his contributions to the field of legal marketing, Mr. Jaffe was acknowledged for his forward-thinking use of technology and his creative, mold-breaking approach to legal marketing and PR.

“Jay brought a sense of showmanship and humor to a field that is often viewed as conservative and reserved,” said Terry M. Isner, Jaffe PR’s Managing Director of Creative, Marketing and Business Development. “We are happy that this creative spirit lives on at Jaffe PR.”
