When many travelers think of a summer vacation in Florida, their minds automatically go to Orlando or Miami. However, the Panhandle of Florida has many beautiful beachfront towns with a wide variety of events for vacationers of all ages and tastes.
Travel To Go, a leading travel provider with destinations all around the world, has taken the guess work out of an Emerald Coast vacation in Florida with these top events in August in Pensacola, Destin and Panama City Beach.
Pensacola: Fans of everything from science-fiction to indie films will enjoy spending a couple of days at the Pensacola Comic Convention™ from Aug. 8 to 9. Besides a bevy of vendors selling collectibles, books and other fandom merchandise, visitors can meet celebrities such as Randy Couture, Michael Jai White and Karyn Parsons. According to Jeanette Bunn of Travel To Go, the event will also feature discussion panels, workshops, screenings, demonstrations, events, gaming, costume contests, tournaments, and competitions. A portion of the proceeds will be split between various charities, both national and local.
Destin: It started with the Emerald Coast Poker Run more than 20 years ago, and now Destin celebrates Boat Week from Aug. 19 to 23. This a weeklong boating celebration benefits the Emerald Coast Foundation, an organization that supports children's charities and youth organizations in Okaloosa County. More than a million dollars have been raised for the foundation to date by the Emerald Coast Poker Run and Boat Week events. These events include Lucky Ladies Casino Night at Helen Back, the Emerald Coast Poker Run on the beautiful waters of the Gulf, and the Poker Run Party at the Emerald Coast Conference Center.
Panama City Beach: This growing Emerald Coast town was once known mostly for spring break parties. However, over the last few years the city has worked hard to create more family-friendly events. The Summer Concert Series, which runs through Aug. 13 at Pier Park, is one such event. Hundreds of people sit back in their cozy lounge chairs and are entertained by talented music artists. Jeanette Bunn says visitors may hear anything from rock to New Orleans jazz to reggae. The shows take place in the evening, so vacationers can relax in the Gulf breeze under the stars while dancing or lounging. On Aug. 6, visitors can hear Jarekus Singleton and Rotterdam November performs on Aug. 13.
