Sprint announced their new Sprint Sound Session and a partnership with Spotify offering discounted pricing to Sprint Framily customers at a press event in New York, says CBS News, May 1.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“This is one of what be many strong moves by Sprint in coming quarters. So many wireless customers love to carry around their favorite tunes. Sprint Sound Session helps their customers manage and play their favorite tunes. Spotify is a growing player in that market. This Spotify partnership with Sprint makes a lot of sense as this space continues to grow,” says Wireless analyst Jeff Kagan.
“This deal should be valuable and helpful to both Sprint and Spotify. It gives Sprint a very attractive offer at a discounted price. It also gives Spotify the ability to reach the Sprint customer base which is very large,” says Tech analyst Kagan.
“Wireless is one of the key areas for growth for many industries. Music streaming services on mobile devices are no exception. Music streaming services like Spotify need access to wireless customers. That’s why this move should be very helpful in their growth going forward,” says Principal analyst Kagan.
Sprint Framily Plan customers will get a 6 month trial of Spotify for free. After six months they will get a disconted price for the Spotify music service.
“This move is important to Spotify which is a newer company and has a strong customer base on both coasts, but not as strong inside the USA. This Sprint deal will give them the opportunity they need to really start a strong growth curve in the USA,” says Kagan.
“We are still in the very early innings of this new wireless music opportunity,” says Kagan. “If Sprint and Spotify do this right, this could be a great growth opportunity for both of them.”
