Community Choice Voting Debuts for The Jenzabar Foundation Student Leadership Award Nominees

$7,000 Worth of Grants To Be Given to Student-Led Groups Based on Online Votes

Boston, MA (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 19, 2009 -- The Jenzabar Foundation today announced that it is running a Community Choice online voting contest for the first time in conjunction with its Annual Student Leadership Award nominations. This year's Student Leadership Awards brought in nominations from institutions of higher education, students, and non-profit organizations world-wide. Every submission will be posted on the Jenzabar Foundation's Community Network Web portal, where community participants are invited to vote for the student-led group and service effort that established the most effective model and achieved the greatest beneficiary outcome.

Anyone can register online to join the Jenzabar Foundation Community Network. Once issued a user name and password, participants can then read about the humanitarian projects led by higher education students across the globe and place their votes from now until June 30. A total of four winners will be given grants based solely on the number of votes submitted online at www.thejenzabarfoundation.org. The nomination with the most votes will receive the first-place prize of $3,000, a second-place winner will receive a $2,000 award, and the next two highest vote getters will each receive a $1,000 award.

"The nominated students are a true inspiration to the rest of society and have greatly impacted their beneficiaries and communities around the world," said Robert A. Maginn, Jr., Chairman of the Jenzabar Foundation and CEO and Chairman of Jenzabar, Inc. "The Community Choice Awards will promote each one of these inspirational students who value the importance of social responsibility, and provide the opportunity for the public to recognize their efforts."

The nominated student groups and their respective leaders have exemplified a commitment to making a difference in the world through community service, either through ongoing activities or through the completion of a project during the 2008-2009 academic year. The categories of recognition for The Jenzabar Foundation 2009 Student Leadership Awards include the following:

  • Local community support to assist individuals or groups that are underserved through existing community resources
  • International humanitarian efforts
  • Campus ministry programs that reach outside campus boundaries
  • Education outreach to groups or individuals not enrolled in the institution
  • Environmental protection, natural resource management, alternative energy promotion, or climate/habitat awareness
  • Health care provisioning or awareness
  • Issue advocacy targeted to local, state or federal government

The winners of the Community Choice Awards will be considered independently of the juried Annual Student Leadership Awards, as ultimately the public will decide the winners. The results will be announced in July 2009. The Community Choice Awards support the Foundation's mission to recognize and assist student-led campus groups or activities that have made a significant impact outside of their institutions of higher education.
