Ted Moore to Receive John R. Hoyle Award for Educational Excellence

The 26th Annual Administrative Leadership Institute (ALI) will honor Ted Moore, superintendent of Lovejoy Independent School District (ISD), with the John R. Hoyle Award for Educational Leadership on Nov. 19, 2008.

(Vocus/PRWEB ) October 28, 2008 -- The 26th Annual Administrative Leadership Institute (ALI) will honor Ted Moore, superintendent of Lovejoy Independent School District (ISD), with the John R. Hoyle Award for Educational Leadership on Nov. 19, 2008.

Moore, a 32-year veteran of public education, has been a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, technology director, curriculum director, assistant superintendent and superintendent. Before coming to Lovejoy in 2005, he served in three other school districts, including Carrizo Springs, Allen and McKinney ISDs. Moore took the position at Lovejoy to tackle the challenge of building a secondary program from the ground up.

"With only 15 months until Lovejoy's secondary program would debut," said Dennis Muizers, assistant superintendent of curriculum at Lovejoy ISD, "Mr. Moore set about transforming the district along the model of From Good to Great. He has not only transformed Lovejoy, he has managed to do it while retaining the very personalized, caring, child-centered atmosphere that parents call 'the Lovejoy way.'"

The Hoyle award, named after John Hoyle, professor of K-12 administration and well-known authority on educational administration, honors individuals who have made a difference in the lives of children.

Making a difference for children is important to Moore, and it is what drives him as an educator. "Education is the answer for most of the challenges that we face in our communities, in our country or around the globe. As educators, we have the opportunity to lead young men and women to create a future of their choosing--one that solves many of our societal ills and extends the opportunity for a better life to all," he said.

Moore found that despite the fact that he now serves in administration, he is still a teacher. "The most rewarding aspect of working in education is the honor to invest in another person in a way that facilitates their growth and development. After 32 years as an educator, I realize that I have had only one job, which is that of a teacher," he said.

Moore will be honored at the ALI opening banquet at the Miramont Country Club in Bryan, on Nov. 19, 2008, at 6 p.m.

The opening banquet is part of the 2008 ALI Conference, to be held Nov. 19-20. This year's conference theme is Superhero Texas School Leaders Close The Student Achievement Gap: A Vision Fulfilled. It will explore issues such as how school administrators are fighting school drop out rates and unstable student test results, and finding and retaining quality teachers.

For more information on the conference or to register, visit http://eahr.tamu.edu/articles/administrative_leadership_institute. Questions also may be addressed to John Hoyle at jhoyle@tamu.edu or 979.845.2748 or to Virginia Collier at vcollier@tamu.edu or 979.862.1336. Registration deadline is Fri., Oct 31.

Sponsored by the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development at Texas A&M, the Texas Association of School Administrators and PBK Architects, ALI is designed to focus on a critical issue that will help school leaders create or transform schools to help all children become successful students and people.
